I just got a Scotts 2554, Kohler 25 hp/54" cut. Can someone give me a clue what gas consumption to expect with this tractor? (I understand it will depend a lot on how it's being used.) I didn't measure it exactly but seems to be around 1.25 gallon per hour, which strikes me as a lot, and I'd like to be sure this is in the normal range.

Thanks! Steve

On a 25hp engine and 54" deck that sounds good to me. I would have thought it would pull 1.5+ gph.

Must not be pulling the engine very hard.... I mow the same yard with a Cub Cadet #72 with a 10 HP K-241 Kohler and a 5 qt tank of gas lasts about 2 to 2-1/2 hrs. When I use the 129 with a K-301 (12 hp) Kohler the 2 gal. tank lasts about 3 to 3-1/2 hrs... and when I use the 982 Cub Cadet with 20 HP ONAN the 4 Gal. tank lasts about 3 hrs. The amount of work stays the same... except for the amount of weight the tractor has to pull over the yard... The 129 is actually the lightest, no add-on weights and burns about 2-1/2 qts per hour and mows the whole 2+ acres in about 3 hrs; the 72 w/10 HP uses up at least 2 full tanks while mowing the same lawn in 4 to 4-1/2 hrs. The 982 mows the same yard in about 2-3/4 hrs. and burns about 3/4 of a tank of gas.

Thanks guys!

I have to conclude that lawn tractors do not have very efficient motors...

I run a commercial mowing company and run a pair of CH25S Kohlers with 60" decks all day long everyday at 10mph. They average around 1.25 gal per hour. I had better performance with the diesels I have had with a 21 hp Kubota and 22 hp Yanmar only using .85 - .90 of a gal per hour. Better power but cost more too. I am happy with the consumption of my kohlers considering I can mow better than 4 acres in a hour with two machines.
