This is my first posting to this forum but you guys seem to know alot. I have a Simplicity garden tractor I bought "not running". I couldn't get it running and i'm perty handy so I took it to the shop and told them check it over carefully and let me know whats wrong. They told me the magneto wire were chewed by mice and it was NLA but they could pu a MAGETRON in it. SO.... they put in MAGETRON, valve job and said everything else was O.K. It ran terriblly, I took it back and they said the camshaft was shot!!! I ran it for 15 minutes!! I took motor to another shop and they said flywheel needed REPOLARIZED, they did this and it starts and runs nice but overheats. The MAGETRON bracket is in the middle of the slots as per the book. ANy ideas???

I ran it with the mower engaged and it started running rough so I played with carb screws and mowed some more and it started running rough and bogging down even though wide open more plaing with carb screws and mow another 15 feet and then the same problem but when I touched card it was too hot to touch! So I figured the gasoline was boiling?!? shut off immeditately and backed away in case she blowed up!

Christ oh mighty are all the shops but me getting Crooked or just stupid , if the cam was bad the Jackasses should have seen this the first time it was down matter of fact after a Valve job they needed to check the valve adjustment , Can you say screwed as bad as i hate seeing it happen, Any way the Magentron Should have both legs that mount mounted on both post,, Also The easiest way i can tell you to adjust the air gap between the flywheel and Magneto is take a Index card and loosen the bolts and adjust it against the card this is bout the right thickness to give the right air gap .... About over heating does it just seem hot or does it just smell hot rember air colled engines naturaly run Hotter than Liquid colled engines

Good Greif i would say that is running way to danged hot ok here is somethings to check off the top of my head then i got to head out to my shop
ignition timming , Check but unless your key is sheared i doubt Fuel mixture is lean,, well with boiling gas that would be hard to adjust carb as you already stated lol Thats Dayammmm hot pardon my french Oil Level im sure you have checked that so that minus that out

They did a Valve job, Hmmm Wonder if the cam shaft is off one tooth one way or the other, And wonder if they even adjusted the valves like they should have after doing the valve job
Dang it i wish i was closer to help ya out with this one ,, My Standard Question bout over heating is what i asked , Dont think i was downing you just checking ,, but whene a Carb Gets that danged hot id say shes running way out of line ,,,, Ohh Just Thought How far away is the muffler from the carb i know their never far far away just checking to make sure its not been bent extremly close to the Carb
