YES THERE IS AIR GETING SUCKED IN FROM SOMEWHERE ON THE CARB MANIFOLD OR ONE OF THE GASKETS. TRY TUNEING THE CARB FIRST THERE IS A SCREW ON THE CARB WHICH CONTROLS THE AMOINT OF AIR DRAWN IN TO THE CARB TRY CLOSEING IT DOWN THEN YOU WILL FIND IT WILL RUN WITHOUT CHOKE. THATS ALL THE CHOKE IS DOING IS SLOWING DOWN THE AIR FLOW GOOD LUCK GARY

From most likely to least likely, easiest to hardest:

1.) Blocked fuel line/shutoff valve/filter.

2.) Varnished carb...time for a cleanup and rebuild.

3.) Improper timing/worn points.

4.) Blown head gasket.

5.) Sticking intake and/or exhaust valve.

6.) Extremely worn rings. (You'd see blue smoke way before this, though.)
