If you know, can you please tell me how to remove the electric start clutch assembly from the tractor. I have removed the "special starter bolt", and have not been able to figure out how to remove the "sprocket weldment"(chain clutch assy). When I turn the "drive nut", the engine turns(even with the transmission clutches engaged). There is probably some mechanics secret that is eluding me.

I am taking the electric starter assembly off a purchase salvage tractor

Many Thanks.

Dedicated gravely owner since 1978,

art c

If you're asking what I think your asking- The chain clutch come off counter clockwise. I always got ahold of the fan belt, put a wrench on the two flats on the clutch, and hit the wrench with a hammer. Always spun right off, as long as I took the jam bolt out first! If the fan belt dosn't provide enough torque- feed rope into spark plug hole when pistons about halfway down. Bring piston up against rope and head and try it.

The starter pulley is attached to the end of the crankshaft by a tapered fit and keyway. It is held on by the clutch assy.Take a large screwdriver or a small prybar and attach it inside one of the slots on the starter pully (there should be 3)and rest the bar or screwdriver against the left side of the frame. This will keep the pulley and engine from turning while you loosen the clutch assy nut.
The entire clutch assy should screw off ccw and you will be left with the starter pulley on the crankshaft. You will have to get to the slots I mentioned from the backside of the pulley.Be carefull not to damage the oil pump, which is behind the starter pulley.Hope this helps!
