Gravely occasionally hesitates...

I just bought my first Gravely tractor. It is a used '75 Model 524 with the 8 hp Kohler. Every now and then, the transmission will suddenly stop pulling and the engine just sits there. I will sometimes jiggle the forward/reverse lever to get it to move again. It's also done it a few times while walking up a slight incline on the way to the garage with no load on the PTO. Is this normal or the sign of something more serious? It has the swiftomatic 8 4-speed as well. Please e-mail me back if yours does the same.

Can have two main problems: The hi-lo shifter on the right side axle housing may be "popping" out between hi and lo.
Clean the pin that moves in and out of the housing. If the tractor is "snapping" back into forward when you notice your problem, check this first.
Could be the hi-lo clutch pack. the clutch pack is located in front of the engine. This clutch pack drives everything, the pto, fwd-rev etc.I would check this if the tractor "eases" to a stop then "eases" forward again. I am assuming you have an attachment mounted on the front?? If not the drive shaft can simply slide forward and you will stop. Try these first. Do you need a parts book?
Can supply.
