Does anyone know where I could find a discussion group on Honda riders? I just bought a HT3813 and would like to get some inside info on it. Pros & cons. The technology and engineering on this tractor is pretty impressive (2 cylinder, water cooled).

This isn't an old tractor, so it may not be appropriate on this forum.

It would be nice to talk to someone other than the local Honda dealer and parts guy.

Please steer me in the right direction.

Thanks.

My friend's HT3813 has done something really scary for about the last 5 years. Twice or three times a cutting season he will be working the machine, cutting under load, and the thing will take right off and hit the rev stratosphere. Even if he backs off on the throttle, it still revs off the map. You have to do a real emergency shutdown. Not good. Linkage has been checked, carb, throttle etc. He's had it to the Honda shop where they apparently replaced the governor and it still does it. Help!!! This is a real safety issue never mind a potential mechanical disastor in the making. What could be wrong inside that governor unit?????

Go to ihcubcadet.com and peruse their classified ads. A number of people who part out Cubs list their parts on that site, and one of them can help you out. If you don't see it listed, just contact one of the people parting the Cubs out(e-mail is included with the ad). Punch this link, then scroll down to "IH Cub Cadet Classifieds."

Bought my HT3813 summer 1986. I lived in a rural area then, mowed 25000 ft2 of lawn, and a 2 acre orchard.

Now in city w/ just 10000 ft2 lawn.

It has cut a lot of grass. Your post was the only hit I got on searching for HT3813. I am looking for a discount place for parts (need to replace grass bags after 14 years).

Just got it out of storage today, gave it fresh gas, let it run for a while. At full throttle, it is the smoothest lawn tractor engine sound you will ever hear.

Problems:

1) after all this time, the evenness of the cut isn't perfect,
2) had to replace cam, some years ago, maybe 10 years, apparently a known problem,
3) the oil pump gear is nylon, so have been advised never to start with engine really cold.

Great machine. Cost me $3000 new. Gotta say, I've received good value, though.

Good luck.

Roger
