Hi

we have 22 acres, and make hay from a lot of it.

it would be nice to have a flat 8 grab to make hay moving a bit easier.

We have a MF135, but its probably too nice (and light) to put a flat 8 on.

We have been on the lookout for something a bit bigger, but i know it wouldnt get used much, so dont really want to spend a lot on a newish tractor.

Then it struck me that a Fordson major may be perfect, just used for loader work.

Do you think with some counter weight it would take a flat 8?

thanks in advance

Ben

(I also posted this in the tractor talk forum, just thought may have mire replys here)

Ben

I would prefer to use a 1968 up Ford 4000 or 5000 with power steering. The front end on Majors and lack of power steering on 90% of them puts me of them for REAL loader work. I have a Super Major and but I bought a 5000 for loader work for the reasons above.

Ben, the idea is right but you would need a power loader with an extra hydraulic service to open and close the grab, more money! As long as you know this you carry on. Try asking the question on www.fordson.freeweb.nl discussion board too, they are really helpful.
