I assume if you are changing the pistons and sleeves, what you really want is to rebuild your engine. Changing the piston and sleeves isn’t all you’ll need to do. Along with the block you need to take the crank as well. If the machinist is good he’ll check the tolerances and perhaps rework your crank. Then when you buy your rebuild kit, make sure you buy the proper bearings. You may also have to buy oversized thrust washers. You’ll also want to bring the head and have it pressure tested and trued up. The seats will have to be resurfaced and new guide pressed in. With your rebuild kit will come with new vales, springs, guides and all the gaskets. I suggest before you dive into this project, you find a good engine shop where you plan on having the machine work done and buy him a cup of coffee and have a chat. He’ll let you know what you’re in for. I’m right in the middle of this now and the disassembly and reassembly isn’t too difficult. But if isn’t for a novice either. And you need a complete set of tools.

It takes a little hone work to set the new sleeves into the block. Outside of that it is'nt any big deal.

Since you dont have sleeve experience it would be good to carry the naked block to a machine shop and have the sleeves seated. It doesnt cost that much, then just ring and piston it yourself.

It is kinda touchy on fitting the sleeves. If you dont hone enough out of the cylinder hole the sleeve will expand from the heat with the engine running and seize on the pistons. If you hone the hole too much the sleeve will come unseated. (we used to call it *jerk a sleeve*)

You got bigger issues than just knowing what’s entailed with the sleeves and pistons.
