I have a '53 FM gas that misses unless the choke is pulled out about 2/3rd's. This is at idle up to full throttle...

The tractor has new plugs, wires, filters...

Whats wrong?

Thanks

Miles,
Your problem is a fuel problem rather than electrical.
Fuel must be getting to the carburetor or the engine would not run with the choke out as this causes a richer mixture and more fuel is used.
I would suspect the problem to be a blocked or partially blocked main jet or, if you have an adjustable main jet on your tractor, perhaps it is cut down too fine.
I have had similar problems on my petrol/paraffin Major.
The other thing to look for is the choke flap itself in the air inlet to the carb. This is mounted on a coil spring. I find that mine has to be slightly choked to run right and set the flap accordingly. I have a fixed main jet.
My plugs, the other thing to look at if you suspect fuel problems, are a lovely clean straw colour, not black and sooty (too rich) or white (too lean).
regards
Brian
