My aunt is interested in purchasing a Fordson Major. At this moment she just wants to know if it is a good buy. Her main concern is parts and the availability of such. She lives in the white mountain region of New Hampshire. The tractor she is looking at is somewhere between a 1958-65, and she does not have a serial number. Any information, or any other type of input is gratiously accepted.

Parts are not a problem. NAPA carries filters etc. Other parts are available through Quality Farm & Fleet. The JD people will turn up their nose at Fordsons but people who long for a tractor will still envy your Fordson. They add up to a great value if you consider other brands.

Probably--people in the US are often prejudiced against Fordsons. At least guys around me in WNY are, which means you can buy them cheap.

I've had three of them and always have found parts, though you want to talk to gray-haired guys at the parts counters if you can.

I can't say much for I just recently purchased a '57 FMD. Common parts like filters are available and although the Ford/New Holland dealer will have a record of parts, many are unavailable. I just found a used glass fuel bowl at a salvage yard by phone. But check your dealer first. If it runs well, I know my Major will be a better tractor for me than a more expensive 8N.
