Just purchased the forementioned tractor - needs a lot of work - engine is stuck. Was wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram for this tractor?
Thanks - Bob

Bob, the wiring on the 23 model is the same as a Model T Ford. I don't have my manual here at work so I won't attempt to get too detailed. Also, you didn't say how much of your ignition system is present or whether it has an aftermarket magneto. If you plan to go with the factory setup, here goes...

Power comes from the terminal on the front of the clutch housing on the left side (from driver's seat looking forward). This wire goes to the contacts on the bottom of the coil box. On the back of the coil box (side next to the head) are two rows of terminal screws (8 total). Here's where my memory fails me so I'll just say one row goes to the spark plugs and the other row goes to the timing cap on the front of the camshaft. I have a 4 conductor cord on my tractor which keeps things neat. There should be a roller under the cap that grounds the proper coil which opens its points causing the corresponding cylinder to fire.

As an aside, there is enough end play in my tractor's crankshaft to keep the flywheel generator ('magneto', in Ford terms) from opening the points. I have a 6 volt battery (positively grounded) connected to the coil box through a switch so I have spark to start the engine. Once running I open the switch to the battery and immediately close another switch to the generator. Do not connect your battery to the generator because there are permanent magnets mounted to the flywheel that will lose their magnetism when hit with DC power.

The serial number of my '23 Fordson is 283322. How close is yours?

Stan; Thanks for the prompt reply,I just picked up this tractor and it is in bad shape, which I knew before I bought it. Engine is froze up as lt set outside for 16 yrs.I have the four model "T"coils which were stored lnside. All the wires are hanging, one sparkplug is broken off & the gas tank is rotted out. I have a 9 n which needs an engine overhaul before I start on the fordson, the last date on the fordson dash panel is 8-26-23. Bob

I also have a 23. Sounds like its in the same condition as yours. Mine sat for about 30 years. Engine is seized, and EVERYthing is missing. You can check out the website I put up for it. At least it was painted. If you find any good sources for parts, I would really appreciate if you could share the information! There is not much in my part of the country. If you are interested, I would happy to add pics of yur 23 to my site. Take a look!
