Hi. I got a call from someone who is interested in selling a late 1920s Fordson tractor. I'm in Central CA. The person who owns it said that her father parked it on their farm in the '40s and it's been sitting there ever since. I'm told that it's all there except for the steering wheel. I'm sure it doesn't run after all these years. Any advice as to what they would ask for it? They're supposed to be developing photos to give me. I don't even know the model no. - they couldn't find it anywhere on the tractor. Sorry for such sketchy details, but I don't know where to begin to give it a value.

Barbara,
In the Northeast, a lawn ornament Fordson F 1918-1927/28 can be purchased for $150-300.00. If this piece has been unsheltered for 40 years, that's probably all you have. But you never know. In the past couple of years I've brought bact to life two boneyard specials. Some people think I'm nuts, sleeving cracked blocks and the like. There's something about finding these things at their worst and seemingly doing the impossible. Granted it's a lot easier and cheaper if you have a few parts tractors to pick away at. If your starting from scratch, good luck, you're going to need it along with "deep Pockets." When it's over and you have completed the mission, there is a sense of accomplishment second to none. Keep us all informed. RLL

Barbara:

I usually make it a practice not to do long distance appraisals. There can be so many variables. If you will check previous posts on this page, or search for Model F or Model N you can find a lot of information without repeating it here. Chances are the tractor is a Model F Fordson. It could be a Model N... most likely it is an earlier Model F. If it has sat there that long, most likely the engine is stuck... and the crankcase half full of water. Are the steel wheels rusted through? Is the water washer air cleaner intact and not frozen and broken, is the seat a Fordson script seat. Is the coil box and lid there, is the head cracked, the block cracked the radiator core destroyed? There are just so many variables putting a price on it now will most likely be just a wild and erroneous guess. Can you post more information as you receive it and we'll help you.
