Modern filters for FMD?

My FMD is at a point where both the oil and fuel filters are difficult to replace without some subsequent leaking occurring. Are there adaptors for these tractors that will allow one to use "modern" spin-on filters? If so does anyone have a source?
Thanks.

I have 2 Majors. One has the AC oil filter housing. The other has Fram. I think the AC is superior in every respect and has never caused me a moments problem. The Fram is nothing but trouble. The body gaskets supplied with the either with the NH or NAPA 1193 filter that seal the housing to the base simply do not fit properly on the Fram base. I leave the body gasket there and reuse them as it is miserable to get a new one to hold after they are disturbed. Also having to fool with the cork spacer gaskets is a pain. The cork spacers are not needed with the AC filter. I looked all over and finally found a copper gasket at a diesel shop to seal where the bolt goes through the Fram shell. Even then I still usually have a small drip. Get a good AC housing out of the junkyard and your problem will be solved. I understand that Majors also used Tecalmit filter housings. I am not familiar with them but from my experience I think AC is superior to Fram. Both of my tractors have AC fuel filters. No problems with them.

I just bought a FMD oil filter from NAPA. Inside the box they gave notice that many of the internal parts i.e. gaskets, springs, seal for around the bolt would no longer be available. They claimed to "contact your Massey Ferguson dealer and obtain a spin-on filter conversion."
Part Numbers: 741922M1 (head), 354805X1 (bolts), 1476033X1 (washers). They said this conversion would allow you to use WIX filter 511460, 1460 NAPA, or 85460 Carquest. I tried a .com place to order one but as usual they do not answer their email. My Massey dealer is too far away to make a special trip.

Baylor, I've got 62' Super Dexta, I'm told that Perkins made all the diesel motors for Fordson. If that's true then you should be able to go to them for updated adapter that will recieve a spin on filter. I purchased one from our local Massey dealer for a minimal price and am very pleased with it. Good luck

Thanks for the tip. For the ten or so years I've had the FMD I've been fortunate to be able to get most parts I've needed from a New Holland dealer. They can't find a part # for spin-on filter adapters.

It is not true that Perkins made all engines for Fordsons. The E27N was available with a P6, and Perkins offed an L4 conversion for E1A (51 to 64) tractors. The 220 CID engine fitted to the Fordson Major, Power Major and Super Major is a Ford engine. The engine in the Dexta and Super Dexta is a Perkins engine with a differance. The blocks and heads etc were cast at the Ford foundry at Dagenham and then shipped to Perkins for machine work. I think they were assembled by Ford but I could be wrong. The Dexta engine is a dry sleeve engine with Ford part numbers cast onto it and the Perkins as fitted to Massey Fergusons is a wet sleeve. Fords always denied it being a "Perkins" engine.

The problem you will fitting a spin on filter is the space between the block and the chassis rail. If your housing is prone to leakage, I would just try and get a good second hand housing from a wreckers. New Holland will always sell the filters as there are still millions of these tractors working around the world.
