Anybody know of a good way to put power steering on a 59 fordson major diesel?

Thanks

When I was a kid I used the parts from a Ford car with the a drag link valve, cylinder and pump and cobbled them onto a Major. It worked great.

Go up about a page to "My Next". His picture shows the power steering. It works on the same principle that my 1963 Mercury used.

The kit is now UK250 and although probably very worthwhile, it is too rich for my budget. Has anyone tried to fit a hydraulic power assist to the manual steering?

The unit in the picture looks like a factory fitted job, but maybe with a bit of innovation, a similar setup could be made. Any comments or advice welcome

If you really want PS, it appears a company in the UK called Agriline Products makes a full kit to add PS to the Major.

At 250 pounds (UK 'dollars'!), it's up to you!

I've tried to add the link to their Major parts list, so I hope it shows up.

They were sold by Sherman Bros. There was a brochure on Ebay the other day.

You can find them occasionally when you go junkyarding. The loader-backhoe units especially seemed to have them.
