I purchased a power major recently and i am looking to find out what year it is? A number over the injector pump reads 152142 last one either 0 D or A can't tell? Also a number by clutch linkage that is A26V. Any help. Here's were the dumb shows, there is a dip stick top left by shifter I am assuming transmission but there is nothing showing on the stick. Can you tell me if it takes hydraulic fluid or 80-90 and where the filler hole is located. There is a filler hole on the right hand side of the seat is this it or does this filler go to the rear end?

I believe some of the fordson were shiped directly to the sherman plant for atatchments
my fordson has a serial number from sherman on the fire wall.
the sherman backhoe on my '56 is a very strong digger (the swing chains seem to be the week part) I have had it for 15+ years dug basements, drain fields, water and drain trenches and thousands of tree stumps.

Thanks guys for the information on sherman attachments. I believe that this tractor is a 59 and I believe what you are calling wing chains are large cables on mine. I also have a ford 3000 3cylinder diesel, while I was looking for something to dig with I considered buying a 3 point hoe attachment for it but they just didn't look like they would dig much. Although not as big a a regular backhoe this attachment really looks strong like it can dig. I have yet to really test it out. The loader on it looks really well built also. It was made in Shawnee KS. Got a question for one of you guys before I go. What is the lever for on the left side of the tractor by the cluch pedal, It goes down and goes into some type of gear box under the tractor. It moves back and forth but I can't really tell what it controls? I'm really not dumb just dumb about this tractor. You guys have any idea about a value on this tractor not seeing it? I would say good to average condition.

The serial number should be next to the number one injector .

third party image

The number should be all digits with no letters. The number that you posted does look correct. I gave give you the build date when I get home.

The dip stick next to the clutch is for the rear end. The filler is behind the seat.

The plug next to the dip stick if for the gear box. There are high / low markings below the bolt.

Personally, I would drain out all of the oil in the rear end and gear box and replace it with 15w/40 or straight weight 40 depending on your weather and if you are going to use the tractor during the winter.

Forgot to add, if you plan on keeping the machine get yourself a set of reproduction ford manuals. They will cost you a few dollars but are well worth it. They sell them on this site.

Thanks,

Scott

Hey thanks for the help. while I have you here I have another question to ask. this tractor has been sitting under a shed for 7 years. The reason I purchased it was because it has a real nice backhoe attachment and loader. I have been looking for awhile for something to dig with around the house. The attachments look factory (paint matches tractor) but there is a plate on the hoe that says sherman power products, Michigan. I guess the most likely thing is that they were added after the build. I know a little about tractors but nothing about fordson, did they make them with these attachment from the factory? when I picked the tractor up (I got it started)I checked the dip stick and I couldn't find anything thats why I did know what to put in there or where to put it.

Shermans were Re: general information on power major in reply to Chris Perry, 06-13-2007 15:42:12
Shermans were added by some dealers or aftermarket but are one of the best units after market models. Factory units were a bit different with a Fordson Industrial tractor subframe and the digger and loaders in the USA were made by Ford
