hi Decided to work on my American Fordson and put the Fordson All Around off for a while. Bought both off these a couple weeks ago at an auction. Took the head off and #2 cylinder has an inch long crack up the cylinder wall and then runs over in between the valves. It stops about where the valves are. Is there any options to fixing this? I was told by one guy that you could bore the block out and have a sleeve from a Farmall M put in it? Could it be welded and machined out? Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi,
My dad and I picked up a 1918 Fordson a year or so ago, and it was is pretty bad shape. It had two cracked cylinders. We looked around for a solution like your self and found a fellow locally who bored each cylinder and sleeved each cylinder to run the original pistons. I think he only charged $300 for the entire job. I can e-mail picks if your interested.

When I worked in the machine shop we sleeved cracked cylinders a lot. A BIG NO_NO is to have it welded unless they are in the business. Can you get the block pressure tested to see where the crack goes? I would recommend the cold crack repair method. I will also send you an e-mail. J.

Can you explain the "cold crack repair method" ? Is that the same as drilling & pinning ?
