mag clearance

can any one tell me what the clearance should be between the flywheel magnets and the coils on a fordson f. thanks for any help. Al

Hi Albert, I try to use a rear main bearing cap that will give no more than .010" of axial thrust on the crankshaft. It will run with much more than that but more thrust will cause magneto clearance to fluctuate depending on how much it is thrusting. I set the mag clearance at .030 Ford dealer specs say 1/32". Set this with the crank thrusted to the rear so that your running clearance will be between .020 and .030 Make sure that the adjusting shims place the coil ring parrellel with the flywheel and you should be all set.
