I have a 1957 Fordson Major Diesel its my main and only tractor.
I run both an Alis Chalmers All-crop and a Massey
baler with it. Which in theory need a tractor with live PTO. I have managed OK but would like to teach my daughter how to run it.

Not really interested in buying or owning another tractor.

Any way of retro fitting live PTO to this Fordson.

I thought it might be possible since the PTO solution it has is a tack on deal just bolted to the back of the transmition.

I dont know how old your dauter is, but I would not ever put a child on a hey baler to run it. How would feel if she got baled up. It has happened before.
Just my point of view. As for the duplex clutch you would have to change
it all from the clutch to the back of the trans, just isnt worth that much on a Major. Would cost less to get a Major that has that feature.

From my understanding the only way of fitting a live PTO is to have a dual clutch which means also having a dual clutch gearbox, as teh dual clutch and single clutch gearbox are not interchangeable. Look back in the recent postings as I had asked Majorman a similar question, and his answer was very helpful.

Good luck.

I know what you mean about the live pto. My dual clutch is not working properly on my FSM (1963) and it is a bit of a pain pushing snow with no hydraulics on the front blade once the clutch is depressed.
