i used when i was a kid and started it all the time they are sometime hard to start don't matter what who says i never had any problems by using the decompression lever raise the lever and turn it over to warm the clyinders a few seconds then strech your arm out and pull the decomp. lever down if your battery is week pull it half way down then pause befor pulling it all the way down our fordson was not in the best shape we still have 3 of them a backhoe and a late model super and a power major

i don't have the procedure for your tractor but i do know that if you are not sure of the sequence you had better not attempt it. FIND an operators manual BEFORE you to start the tractor!! These things can hurt you real bad if you don't know what you are doing. Please be SAFE!

Do not attempt to start the tractor using the decompressor. This is only for turning the engine by hand to free oil lock in very very cold conditions. Attemping to us it to start can result in extreemly expensive damage.

Look on the fuel pump and where the stop cable moves a lever there is a small button in the centre. Push this in.

The starter lever is on the left down low, you will see a rod that connects it to the top of the starter. Be on the seat when you push this down! If you stand beside the tractor and its in gear it will run you down. A diesel will give full power from the moment it starts not like a petrol and you will get no second chance.

I would also suggest you get an operators hand book before going too far. there is one on line at Link

In theory, you should sit in the seat to start, but for the first 11 months I had mine I was still doing it from the ground (in neutral, pto off, and emergency brake on). Only recently did I troubleshoot the problem, which involved new battery ground cable and cleaning the bolt attachment, tightening the cable at the starter end, and replacing the solenoid. This is a great place to learn from others who have experience with these nice machines. Good luck.

The lever is a compression release for sure. The starter lever should be on the left side of the steering wheel, and a bit below. You pull it back hard towards you, sometimes it has to be pulled very hard. Hope this helps.
