Is it possible to remove the brake cover and drum without removing the wheel on a 55 major? The right brake on mine is basically worthless, and I would like to take a look at the inner workings, but I don't want to take the tire and wheel off it at all possible. It has 3 weights per side, plus the tires are loaded. Rather not try to move them unless I have to.
Thanks,
Matt

Depends what your wheel settings are and your girth! Mine are set at 60" on 11x36 wheels and I service mine without removing the wheels.

Matt,

I have 16.9 x 30" wheels on my Power Major. I was doing break adjustments a fews weeks ago and found that the brass adjusting knob was siezed on one side. I was able to remove the dust cover but the drum would not physically come off. Fortunetly I was able to get the adjusting portion out from the bottom and fix it. If you had another 1/2 inch the drum would come out. I would jack up the tractor and loosen the lug nuts to the end of the wheel studs and use a pry bar to move it just off on the top. Make sure you have lots of blocks underneath to be safe

Regards
