I have a Fordson E27N 1948 with a standard 4.3
gearbox , but where the belt pulley is normally
fitted mine has a gear fitted with a lever running up to the dash area and is marked High /low , does this turn the 3 speed into six or just one gear only ?
Does it have any special name?

Adam,
Is this an Australian tractor? If so, it will be a Maidrite Underdrive or Overdrive. As yours is this 4.3 low speed, it will probably be an Overdrive. This will give you 6 forward & 2 reverse. The unit was made by Southcott Engineering of Adelaide. If you look closely at the Gear Change it will have Part No's starting with AB stamped in.

Adam, I am from near Adelaide aust and recently at a sale I saw an e27n set upthe same way, and the previous owners brother told me that it had been put in the tractor by Southcott Engineering, so I would suggest that what BarryM says is the same as I have heard
