Fordson N oil pressure

I have a Fordson model N tractor, which I am told was made in the early 1940s. It has no oil pressure. I am told it needs priming. Does anyone know how to go about doing this?
Is there a manual pump, if so where, or do I have to pour oil in somewhere?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Gary

Hi Gary,
The Fordson model N uses a dip and splash lubrication system. There is no oil pump, just oil slingers on the flywheel that feed a pipe that runs oil down to the main bearings and big end oil wells. All you need to do is make sure you have enough oil in the old girl and keep it on fairly flat ground. The old Fordsons do not like running up hills for prolonged periods, it causes number 1 big end to burn out because the oil cant get to it.

Regards, Frank.

Frank:
Thanks for your reply.
The tractor has an oil pressure gauge. It used to register oil pressure. All I have done is wait 20 years and change the oil. Now it indicates no pressure. Is there something wrong?
Thanks, Gary

Hi Gary,
Sounds like you may have a Perkins P6 or L4 diesel engine conversion in your Fordson model N tractor, or maybe a Ford model N. A few further details might help me identify what tractor you have. As for how I would go about starting the old girl after sitting around for a long while, it would be clean oil new filter and if it has an inspection plate at the bottom of the sump, as it should, remove it and clean the gause filter out. It may have sludge build up which is blocking the oil pump pick up. Most engines will prime themselves within a minute or so of cranking if everything is clean and clear. I would crank it untill it had some pressure on the gauge and only let it start after that though.

Regards,Frank.
