Okay, after posting my previous message I read through the board and apparantly the last year that the Ford 3000 was made was in '75. The person I bought my tractor from had 2 3000's, he said the one was a 77 and the other was a 78. Obviously he was lying (surprise)! Is there any way of finding out exactly what year the tractor is? I really like the tractor, and plan on keeping it anyway, but I would like to know the year in case of parts requirements, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Eric Krauska

open the hood and look on the serial number tag for the UNIT number it will have a number like " 5A15C " First number is the year ie 65,75,85,95

Letter is the month A=Jan B=Feb etc note they skip the letter I because it looked too much like a one

second set of number is the day of the month

last letter is the work shift A= day B= evening
C= night shift

if the tag under the hood is gone, this same number is on the trans housing along with the serial number

good luck !

Okay, thank you for the help, but if it is a "5", how am I to know if it was built in 65 or 75? Any way of telling the full year?

Thanks for the quick response, I can tell this board is going to be a great help to me.

Thanks again,

Eric Krauska

1965,66,67,68 and a few 69 had louvers in the hood
also the grille bottom section on the 65 66
curled around the sides a little the later ones were flat

1965 serial number starts C100000
1975 starts C448101

By the way.....the best I remember, there isn't a bracket for the light duty ftont ends, only for the 4000 series w/ the straight axle.
Put weights on this front end with care, the axles were well known to break at the axle pivot area, this often took out the radiator and both radius arms when they broke.
