We bought this 6000 diesel on a farm sale. The owner's son said that when they parked this tractor, the injection pump would not idle down. We got it home and found that the fuel transfer pump had been disabled. The pump arm had been cut off. Put on a new transfer pump and now we can get the engine to hit a couple of times when we first start cranking, but that's it. It has a Simms injection pump. We opened the bleeders on the pump and fuel sqirts out of them. I think there is still air in the system but don't know how to bleed it. I'm new to this forum and would appreciate any advise. thanks..... .

My brother worked on this before I had the chance to try out your guys ideas. He put compressed air to the inlet of the filter housing and removed the fuel return line. Also removed the breather. It runs now, but won't idle down. It does slow down with the throttle, but not down to idle speed. Tried adjusting the stops on the pump speed control arm with no success. Could there be a broken spring somewhere in the governer? The tractor won't move either now. I'll start a new thread for that one. Thanks much guys.

the excess fuel button is a starting aid. It should latch in until the engine starts and runs, then pop back out.

If it's like the excess fuel button on my 5000, 7000, 7600 and TW35, the throttle has to be at least part way open (1/3? I usually put it to 3/4 if I need the button in) to get the button to stay in.

Thanks for the replys. My transfer pump is working well and my filters are full. I had one of the injector lines removed completly and could not get any fuel out. I spoke to a pump rebuilder and he said that these pumps don't work like a Roosa master, and could not remove lines to bleed air. I will try just cracking them tomorrow. Can you tell me just what this excess fuel rod is for? I tried pumping it and holding it in, but no luck yet. Oh yes, we have tried either, just knocks and wont run. thanks again..... .

If you haven't already, have someone give her a wiff of ether while you're cranking. Do you have the excess fuel for starting button pushed in?

If you're sure air in the system is the culprit, you're on the right track with bleeding the pump. If you get fuel without bubbles at the pump, next bleed the injectors. Open the lines just enough to let the air bleed out, open the throttle, and crank her over until fuel is spurting. (DO NOT let this high-pressure fuel hit your skin!!) When there are no bubbles, start tightening down the fittings on the lines. It should start after 3 or so fittings are tighened.

The older deisels when ran out of fuel or jelled up, they had to remove the fuel filter and fill with fuel reinstall and start tractor. Sometimes had to be repeated more than ounce. Doing this in a warm building works best. That's about the exstint of my deisel knowledge. John
