I have a Ford model 1300 compact tractor with a Japanese built two cylinder diesel engine. Well, the engine just took a serious dump and the mechanic tells me it will be super expensive to repair. I believe the tractor was built in the early 80"s. Does anyone out there know of a place to find a used or rebuilt engine for this tractor? Or would I be better off to just sell the tractor for parts? It is a 4X4 with a loader. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The price of these things are finally on their way down. I'm sure you'll be able to find something, or else, part it out, or sell it as a project. I have a Ford 1210 3 cyl diesel, hydrostat, 4wd, mid/rear pto, 3 point hitch, turf tires, 60 inch mid mount mower, front mount blade with hydraulic lift/angle, and a loader valve. It has show quality paint on it, that I did one winter when I had nothing else to do. (I'm an autobodyman) I have been trying to get $5500 out of it, as I got a 1910 a couple years ago. No one will even come close to offering $5500 for it. So I am probably going to keep it.

Jim R, I have the same tractor that went under water for hurricane Rita 2 years ago I beat pistons out with a sledge hammer. Between e-bay and the net I was able to find all parts I needed. There was one in Maine being parted about a month ago, have no clue what he has left. But beware of prices sometimes the Ford Dealer and local shops are cheaper than what you could find on the net with the cost of shipping. If you do deside to part the unit I still need a few parts to bring mine back to tip top shape.

I'm not sure where you would find one other than what's already been suggested. I do remember reading a story in FarmShow mag couple years back about a yard somewhere in the mid-west that specialized in compacts but I can't for the life of me remember the name or even what issue it was in...
With that tractor I'd seriously suggest you consider parting it out. That series is getting very hard to get parts for. It's the engine today, the front axle tomorrow..... Sometimes it's better to stop digging.

Also try wengers of PA.. it's a huge salvage yard.

As another possibility.. I see that the 1300 is .8L and the 1200 is .8L with a difference of .4ci..list in the specs.. IE.. 49.1 / 49.5 both 2cyl engines.. I'd see if a 1200 engine is flywheel/bellhousing/bolt in compatible.

I don't have manuals for units that small.. so can't say.. but a bet a smart cookie like Rodins or RickB might know.

I wouldn't even invest the time in the research. It's a parts tractor. Salvage it. Take that money plus what you are thinking of putting in the engine, and start fresh with something newer.

Jim; Try the below link. They list having parts for the 1300.
