851 loader on 4000 tractor?

I have an 851 with factory loader. The loader is in good condition but the tractor needs work.

I know that early 4000 models are identical to late 800 models. I was wondering if I could reasonably move the loader to a newer ford in better condition.

I'm not having much luck finding a tractor with loader in my price range. I like the fords because they sit low, I live in hilly country and mow under trees.

I have an 851 that I need an engine to for. Mine threw back rod thru block. Where are you located and would you be interested in getting rid of the 851? and at what kind of price? I am in SW Florida.

Danger Doc, that loader will fit right on a pre 1965 4000 utility. Using the brackets and pump drive off the 851, no cutting or welding needed. However, to put that loader on a 1965 and newer 4000 would be more work than it's worth. It would be easier and probably cheaper in the long run to buy another loader. John

It should be a bolt-on operation to mount your loader on a 4 cylinder 4000. If you have a cutting torch and welder anything is possible, including mounting your loader on a 3 cylinder 4000.
What repairs does your 851 need?

Head gasket going bad now. Still has lots of power and doesn't smoke but starting to spend more time fixing than using.

Any tractor that is 40 or 50 years old is going to need work to keep it running. If you buy a 4000 it may be running good today and need work tomorrow. With your 851 you are dealing with a known machine. If everything else is OK, head gasket replacement is not that big of a deal. Maybe you ought to just go ahead and do a complete overhaul on the engine and then you know it will be good for at least 20 more years.
