Hey John in LA! I have a 860 thats been converted to 12v. by former owner with 12v. generator. I want to keep it that way but the wiring is a mess and needs to be replaced. Can't seem to find a wiring diagram to suit the situation. Any help would be welcome.

There is a couple of things you need to watch out for; such as..... ..... .
1)Did the former owner change it to negative ground??
2)Did he use a Ford generator and regulator out of the 801 diesel??
3)Did he leave the old 6v coil in it and add a 12v to 6v resistor or did he change it to a 12v coil that reads "No external resistor required"

The link is to a 6v + ground. I will assume you answered yes to 1 and 2; and have the 12v coil mentioned in 3. If so this diagram will work if you change 2 things. The battery gets hooked neg ground; and the neg post on the coil gets hooked to the dist.

Give me all the details you know so I can answer questions rather than giving all possibilities.

Now's a good time to get an owners and a parts / service manual if you don't already have them.

The e-diagram in the owners manual leaves a bit to be desired.. but between the reference of all the manuals.. it's usually enough to point you in the correct direction on many issues.

Ditto what dean said. You just have 12v versions of 6v equipment that would already be in the system on the diagram.

Steve:

If the only change to your 860 is the substitution of the generator, battery and ignition coil with 12V versions, the wiring diagram should remain unchanged from the standard 6V 860.

If, however, your tractor has an alternator rather than a generator, you will not find an original wiring diagram as no vintage Ford tractors had alternators.
