Don...the 860 looks great. Makes me feel guilty for not being further along on mine. Picked it up last May & all I've done is dismantle some skin off it & clean & prime a few parts.

I read your post on all the parts you replaced in the drivetrain. What shape was your dual clutch & pto(hollow)input shaft in? My pto turns w/o load on it, but there's a grindy noise when the clutch is engaged.

Jeff

Bamaguy,
The red is a paint I bought about 7 years ago at one of those online tractor parts places that went out of business. The white or light grey is an acrylic enamal I actually bought to paint my outside steel doors on my house. I painted a couple of doors but it was too grey so I used it on the tractor. I can get the exact color code if you want it.

The colors look great to me. I have a '57 660 that needs to be restored. I think those colors would be fine. I've seen posts in the past that told the original codes, but I have not checked on them yet. If you don't mind me asking, about how much did you spend on your restoration?

Bama Guy,
I can tell you I spent more on the resto than I could ever get for the tractor. Last time I caculated it was in the 6000 range, I have bought a few hundred dollars worth of items since then. I had to rebuild everything I opened up, it was shot or soon to be shot. Complete engine rebuild, had to buy a used head, over 500 dollars in the head alone, cam lifters, sleeves. I replaced every bearing, race, and seal in the whole tractor. PUt a used rocker shaft since mine was pretty worn. Rebuilt the Resto-Ride Seat, that can cost over 100 dollars easy. Had to put alot of money in the tranny, mostly bearings, some used gears and a shaft that weren't cheap. Man it just adds up. A big part of it will be your clutch if you need a rebuilt one, that is around 550 to 600 dollars or even more in itself. I have probably spent over 3000 dollars on this site alone. Good luck with your rebuild, I started mine in August of 06 and just finished.

alg,
I thought it would be really loud but it's not at all with the stack pointing up in the air like it is. Now when running the tractor with the timing too retarded like it was when I first fired it up, the noise was terrible and loud, but it's ok now.

I hope you plan on putting a flapper on that straight pipe or keeping the tractor inside all the time.

I kind of smiled seeing these pictures and thinking about all the guys up north that read this site. Nice green lawn you have there.

The Ford 860 and a MF 65 are my all time favorite tractors. I have used both, and would be hardpressed to choose between the two. Your tractor makes me "John Deere" green with envy. Don't get me wrong though; I'm not a John Deere man; I'm strictly a Ford and Massey Ferguson fan.
