I fired my 860 up, been sitting all winter, to do a grading job for a buddie, worked it about 1hr and it started overheating. The temp guage was pinned out to the hot side and the radiator was steaming. If the thermostat needs replaced, can I get it at autozone, if auto zone is good, what part number or item do I get? Dont think it is the head gasket, replaced that 2 years ago. Thanks for the help guys.

Chris

The advice on getting a replacement t-stat is spot on.

But, it may just be globbered up with stuff. You have to open everything up anyway, why not take out the old one, clean it up with a nylon brush and some soapy water. Then check it in a pan of water. Heat until it opens and note the temp.

The only thing differant about differant thermostats is the temp that they open.

If you have a gas tractor you want it to be fully open between 175 and 180 deg.
If your tractor is diesel you would want a 190 to 200 deg.
If they do not have the exact one go DOWN in temp to you get to one they have.

The cap is also important and should be a 3 to 5 psi cap.

Washing out the fins of the radiator from the fan side out is also important. They get cloged with dust and grass.

I would check the 3 things above if you are having over heating problems first.
If all is good there I would move on to colapsted hoses then water pump.

Chris:

There is nothing special about the thermostat for your 860, and you should be able to get it at any GOOD auto parts store that has listings for agriculture equipment.

That said, I doubt that Auto Zone will have such listings. If they do not, try a NAPA store. They will.
