awhtx,I'm glad you responded to this thread with accurate information. No doubt to me that the valve cover will come off with the tank in place, but it sure doesn't look like it would.I had some other issues, leaking fuel shutoff and missing fasteners, etc.that required taking the tin off anyway. In other words,I didn't actually try to get the valve cover off before removing the tank.No intent to cause extra work in my eariler post.Boley

I'm in the process of replacing the valve cover gasket on my tractor now. It's '63 2000 4 cylinder gas,a less powerful but otherwise is similar to your tractor I think. I removed the hood tin and fuel tank for clearance to get the valve cover off.I've read here on this forum that the valve cover will come off with the fuel tank in place,I wasn't smart enough to figure out how.The valve cover vent has a gasket and is located toward the rear of the valve cover, maybe you could be so lucky.

But do I have to take the tank off my 850 to change the valve cover gasket? This thing starts faster than my F-150? I have read others replies concerning how long it takes their three point to lift the plow..soon as mine starts up I hit the lift and wal-low! Its there! ...He's a Florida Boy ya know!. Any advise great preciated.....thanks..Paul

The valve cover will come off without removing the tank but it takes a bit of wiggling

I didn't need to remove the fuel tank on my 861D and the book says you don't need to remove the tank but the only way to know for sure is to get out there and try it yourself.
