I posted last night in a panic. A friend and I were working on the tractor and we heard a knock after it came up to temperature. I had a neighbor come over today who is a mechanic. I started up the tractor to get his opinion, and after it came up to temp. no knock. I let her idle for about 20 minutes, then half throttle for about 10 minutes still no knock. He suggested we check out the oil, we dropped the oil and it was clean... no metal what so ever.. after a new filter oil and a quart of lucas, I hooked her up to the bottom plow for about an hour of work.. stopping every few minutes to listen... still no knock. PUZZLED.

Most likely just a chunk of carbon that broke loose....These old tractors were made to go out and work,,alot of the older tractors are now semi-retired,,and don't always get the workout required to keep them free of carbon..

I hope your 850 continues to be OK. The little 2 bottom plow shown mounted on it in the picture ,I am sure offers it little challenge. I have always greatly admired the power the 800/900 series Fords produce. To my notion there's none finer.

I notice your 850 has the old "hat style" rims like the 8N and NAA had. I wondered if those were still used as OEM on the Hundred series. If those rims are original to your tractor, I guess my question is answered. Now I wonder when they quit using those rims as factory equipment.

It may remain a mystery. At least it's working good now with no issues. Let's keep it that way.
