hello. I am toying with the idea of restoreing my dad's old 6000.It is a diesel with an M&W turbo. it hasn't run in about 5 years but is not stuck. I know that it needs a new injection pump and brakes. How hard are parts to find and how expensive? Would this project be worth it or should I give up on this and spend my time and money elsewhere? Any comments are welcome. Thank you.

I love the sound of the turbo and the puff of black smoke--I have a few extra parts --the brake trouble is probably in the valve and the bearing in the governor on my injector pump was bad and I replaced it myself--It draws alot of attention at a show--the only one there---- but mine weights 8500# like it sets so a little hard to haul

Any good diesel injector shop should be able to overhaul your injector pump. If you can't find new brake shoes a brake/clutch shop should be able to put new linings on your old shoes.

A 6000 has wet brakes...hopefully the auction hasn't run out of time yet, but there's a fella on eBay that has some brake discs. The downside to replacing the discs is that the axle housings have to be taken off. And having bad brakes on a 6000 doesn't necessarily mean that the discs are worn out, either...the brake control valve assy. under the right floorboard might need overhauled, too.

I threw some cheap Chinese o-rings in the brake control valve on "my" '63 6000...I don't think the outside diameter on them was right. The valve still leaks like a steel sieve.

I agree with the others that say the pump should be able to be rebuilt by a reputable diesel shop...and it sure would be cool to see a 6000 run with turbo power!

1950, Dont really know about parts but I think you might want to restore it and keep it in the family. Mabe turn it over to your grandkids someday.
