860 Brackets under the hood

I have an 860 that has a homemade aluminum tank on it. I took the tractor apart back in the summer months and figured I would remember how my gas tank was mounted because I figured it was like in the parts breakdown. Well it seems I am wrong. I am pretty sure I have the tank figured out but not real sure how that heat sheild is mounted, the one that goes above the exhaust. I think I am missing a bracket or something. I do know that the orginal tank mount bracket is gone and I am pretty sure that the one on there now is a homemade bracket to hold the rear of the tank.
Does anyone have a picture of how the heat shield mounts. I am thinking I need to make a bracket to hold the front of it?
Thanks,
Don

Glen,
Thanks for the photo's. Sorry for taking so long to respond. I have been working on the tractor and other things due to the holiday.
That's a really nice tank. You ought to see mine. It's nice but square. I can't even figure how it was in there before, at least not properly. My heat shield must have been just hanging there on the front side because the bolt holes are really gone on the shield and the tank didn't line up with the homemade bracket that was on it. I attempted to make the tank fit better by modifying the rear bracket but now the fenders won't fit. I'm gonna have to do some more thinking on this one, on how to make a good bracket.

Don, Happy New Year! I can give you the demensions of my bracket, a local fabricator made mine for about $20.00. You could then weld it to your tank or have someone do it for you. Just a few spot welds would be all that is needed. If you want the demensions let me know.

Happy New Year to you Glen,
I have an aluminum tank and the bracket would have to be different. My tank does have an 1/2 thick piece of aluminum bar welded to the bottom of the tank than can be tapped. The problem is it seems to be welded in the wrong place to properly mount the front of the tank. I can only figure this tank was in a bind and can see where the fenders and hood latches were rubbing on it. I'm gonna have to actually cut and weld this tank to get it to fit right. I sure hate to do that but it seems like there is no way around that if I want to get this tank in there right.I think I can sure the 1/2 inch bar to mount that heat shield though, now that I know how it goes.
Thanks again for the pictures and help.
Don

Don; On the original tank there was a bracket that was spot welded across the bottom of the tank. The heat shield was then bolted to the bracket. The bracket had two nuts welded to it that accepted the bolts for the heat shield. In the center of the bracket was a key way that took a carriage bolt which was used to bolt the tank to the tank support bracket which was bolted to the head. A spring was used with the carriage bolt which allowed the front of the tank some suspension.

I had a local fab shop make a replica using 14 gauge steel, welded two nuts on the underside and then spot welded the bracket to the tank.

I'll take a picture tomorrow and see if I can send the photo if someone dosen't beat me to it. Hope this helps.
