the other day i had left my 3000 ford in our back pasture, left the key on and the thing was dead in a day or two, went over with my truck and was going to jump it off, went over to crank tractor and the jumper cables just sparked, sence then i have hooked the cables up properly and the tractor will still not turn over or crank, any suggestions on areas to start in are appricated...

thanks in advance, keith

Try another battery, charge up the tractor battery or tow start it if you have another tractor to pull it with. The battery needs a good full charge put into it. Or like others said leave the jumpers hooked up for awhile before you try starting it.

did you try jumper around the solenoid ,, you can use a pair of pliers and touch the 2 big nuts at the same time,, if it starts you need a new solenoid or a key switch,, hope that helps,,

Your average set of 4 ga booster cables won't turn that engine when it's own battery is dead. Hook the cables up, and make sure you've got a good spark (connection), and then let the truck run and boost it for 20 minutes or so. Then try starting it. It'll probably go then. Been down this road many times.... Make certain you've got good connections. HTH.

It's my experience if battery is really dead one has to leave jumper cables on for a while before my 3000 would start. I got to where I'd just pull start it if battery was down. Tx Jim

If it turned over yesterday and you
just left the key on the worst you can
do is burn the coil or resistor if the
points were in the closed position.
Try turning the engine with a crank
or rock it in 3rd geer.
Maybe it is in geer?
Starter should turn with a jump directly
to the starter, not
to the battery.

I hope it didn't have an alternator.. if it did.. you will likely need to get a new one. heck.. even with a genny.. you may have smoked a 40$ regulator..e tc.

my gas one did this a couple times and after jumping the solinoid few times to start it .It wouldn't strt and then turned wire nut on solinoid and she started right up ..guess first make sure battery got full chage ,then make sure all wire connections are tight /not corroded and not making good contact ..Mine was fine one day and appeared to go bad overnight too ,but could just be bad wire connection >I won't add any more as I'd be asking for help after that point myself:/[
