I inspected my 860 governer and noticed that the plates between the ball bearings where the governor shaft rides on has a groove in it. What I am not sure of is if the groove is supposed to be there so the balls from the bearing can ride in. Does any one know if that groove is belongs there? I know it's hard to figure out what I am saying unless you have a manual in from of you. The part with the groove 12505.
It appears that I have the new style governor with the rollers instead of the balls. Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question as I've never had one of those govenors apart. However, I'm sure if you look closely at it you should be able to determine what is normal wear and what is machined. If it's worn it's apt to be uneven, burred and otherwise scored. From my own perspective I would not have even bothered taking the govenor apart unless it had failed. Govenors are really quite simple. If you remove the carb link off the govenor and control that rod manually, you can control engine speed with your hand, and watch the govenor response. If it's responding positively or negatively depending on speed increasing or decreasing, then the govenor is working fine. That's my 1 minute govenor test. If it works, leave it alone. If it doesn't then there's something stuck, or a broken spring. Dunno what else to tell you.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking along the lines you are on if it works leave it alone. I guess looking at how hard it would be to replace it once I have the tractor back together it appears it's a pretty easy pull and replace. So I think I am going to through it back together with the old one. It did work before I took the tractor apart.

Man,
I need to make sure I proof read what I write before I post, and shoot is gives me a chance to do it too. Now that first post is some bad english.
Guess not too many folks have taken a governor apart to know about the parts I am referring to?
Wish I could post a picture of my parts manual page.
