The other day my battery was dead on my 860 and I went to jump it. I hooked up the cables and before I even went to turn the key I had a cloud of smoke that I do not know where it came from. I have no power at all now and I have replaced the solenoid. I am pretty sure the battery is good and the system has been converted to 12 volt with no previous problems.

No the battery is in correctly. I ran it the day before, and I have jumped it the same way many times before. Perhaps your short idea is a good one. Thanks.

Also since the battery was dead your altentor may have gone belly up on you. I would pull it and have it checked. Most auto parts stores will do it for free and may save your self a lot of trouble shooting to boot

Is the battery in backwards?? If its hooked up with a + ground instead of - ground that could be the problem and if so the alterntor is fried and thats where the smoke came from. Now if it is hooked up corretly then you probably have a short some place. Mice love to eat wires and cause troubles like that all the time.
