My 860 leaks gas at the front bracket where its spot welded. Has anyone tried removing the bracket and repairing the leak, then build a new bracket, add webbing and holding it down with a strap?

Jerry, just went through the exact same problem. I had my 861 apart cleaning for a repaint job when I discovered a minor leak just as you describe. I checked on all the products that are suppose to seal it, and may work just fine, but decided to take it to "Performance Radiator" who does this kind of repair. They boil them out and put a urethane sealer inside that acts as a bladder. We are the original owners of this 861 and I didn't want to take any chances of doing something that might not work or cause me problems later. Seems like everything I do comes back to haunt me sooner or later. So I swallowed hard and spent $285.00 to get the problem behind me. They did an excellent job and I don't think I will have to worry about it again. I could have bought a new tank for about the same, but they are only 14 gal and no fuel gauge. I got to keep my original tank with the fuel gauge. But that's just me.

Mine was cracked at the spot welds in the rear bracket. I treated it with Kreme and in a couple of months it was leaking again. I drilled out the spot welds and removed the bracket completely. The cracks were almost an inch long so I'm sure the vibration was too much for the Kreme to withstand.

Took it to a welding shop and they soldered up the cracks. The welder said he didn't want to weld it because the two halves of the tank were originally soldered together at the factory and he thought it might get too hot if he welded it and the original solder would melt.

I took a piece of 2" wide thin steel sheet and formed a saddle for the tank to sit in. I welded this to the lower bracket that bolts to the block.
I put a piece of rubber cut from a heavy inner tube between the tank and the saddle. That was at least a year or two ago and I haven't had any more problems.
