Drain the fluids in hyd and rear end. Remove 4 bolts holding the shaft support housing to the rear of the tractor. Pull the shaft out.....comes straight out. Examine the position of the bearing and the inner snap ring (the one around the shaft). The bearing should be against that ring. If it is a quarter inch away you have found your quarter inch. There is a collar on the outside of the bearing that is supposed to be pressed on and it is supposed to press the bearing against the snap-ring. I just redid mine to fix a leaking shaft seal and lo and behold accidentally stumbled upon why mine was doing the same thing. Rather than just drive it back on, when I had the seal off, I just put on a new sleeve. It is best pressed off and on but I used a vise and a big hammer. Removing the large snap ring allows you to drive the housing off the bearing toward the rear. Once off you can drive the shaft seal off again toward the rear. Also be sure and put a new paper gasket with 4 holes when reinstalling the assy into the tractor. I like to use a little sealer on the gasket. Then don't forget to return the fluid or if it's time, put in new instead. I just put in trans/hydraulic meeting Ford spec XXXX134XXX in mine, both places. Since the inter-chamber seals are probably leaking by now it is going to get mixed up anyway; diff in hyd and vice versa. I think 5 gal did the job. Mark
