Ford 4400: Utility or Industrial ?

I need to order service and part manuals for my Ford 4400 TLB. There is still on the tractor the old decal that says «4400 Utility», there is also the serial number that says its a «Utility» model (40 as second and third digit), but I've been told at different places it should be an Industrial model, first because it has a loader and backhoe, and second because the original color is yellow. I dont know what to think about that.

The other problem is that the only manuals available are for the «4400 industrial», I couldn't find any for the «4400 utility» after hours of searching.

And if finally I really have a «Utility» model, will the parts and service manuals for the «Industrial» do a fairly good job ?

Claude

I don't think it much matters what you want to call it. I have a 4400 utility, 1968, 3 cylinder, with front loader. I ordered the full factory manual set from ford, about 6 or 7 manuals.
Most of the manuals refer to the 4000 series for most everything. The only difference I know of between the 4000 and the 4400 utility is the front axle, power steering and oil pan.

The oil pan is heavier for more strength because of the front loader. It takes some of the stress.
The front axle is solid, heavier and not adjustable.
The power steering on the 4400 is the same as used on the 5000 series according to the manual.

I can't remember exactly but I think I remember reading that the industrial has an even heavier front axle than the utility. Other than those things they are the same as the 4000.

Call ford directly for the manuals. They are very helpful. I think I paid around $115.00 or so for all. I can't remember where to call but maybe someone on here can tell you. I think it was in Michigan.

Gary

Thanks for the info Gary. Which one would you go for, considering I've got a 4400 Utility 1965:

1- 4400 Ind 3-Cyl Tractor Only (65- 75) (5 Vol) Service Manual 1807 Pages

or 2- 4000 Gas and Dsl 3-Cyl (65- 75) Service Manual 06901895 763 Pages

There isn't much difference in the price

Claude

Hi Claude,

I don't have my manuals here right now, they are in Wisconsin with the tractor and I am in Florida, or I would give you the part numbers for them. I did find a note that there are 5 manuals for the tractor alone. The loader manual is in addition.

If you are looking at them from ford then that sounds like what I have. I would get the ones for the 4400.
They show mostly 4000 things through most of the manuals. They only tell you when there is a difference in the utility or industrial.

One of the manuals I think #5 lists the differences. You have to kind of jump around to find what you want but it is all there.

I had to add all the three point equipment including the top cover when I got mine. It had the loader and pto but no 3 point. I had a heck of a time finding anyone that could tell me the difference between it and the 4000. turned out there really was no difference except for the items I mentioned before.

Regards
Gary
