I recently noticed that my 3 point will not lift up or go down. But my PTO still works fine. Any advise on how to fix this would be helpful! Thanks , Trace

I have a 1944 Ford 9N. Every thing works, but the 3 point.

First thing to do is check the fluid level. Note what the fluid looks like. Is it really dirty and thick or is it clear and golden? Or is it milky? It should be a realatively thin, not like gear oil. If you have plenty oil, than either your pump is bad, your control valve/linkage is bad, or you have a major leak in the system. there should be an access port on the rt. side where the hydaulic fluid dipstick is. You'll have to open that and take a look inside. DON"T STICK YOUR HAND IN THERE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING! Actuate the control lever with the PTO engaged and the engine running. If you see a bunch of fluid running down from the bottom of the hydraulic cover plate area underneath the seat, you have a major leak in the hydraulic cylinder. If you don't then the problem is with the control valve and linkage. You really need to get yourself a manual to go any further than this or do a search in the 9N forum. You might also try the 9N forum because there are a bunch of folks there that knoew a lot more about the N series Fords than I do.

Are we to assume that you know the PTO must be engaged for the 3 point to raise?

I have tried to engage the PTO and it works. But when I try to operate the 3 pt. at the same time..... then nothing changes. What should I check first?

Well..... Still..... We have no details, what is the issue?

Are the arms full up, full down, somewhere in the middle?

Did you check the oil level? & quality?

Is the pump primed & flowing?

Does the control lever operate any differently - like freely like something broke?

Was it working fine & this happened suddenly, or was it acting up, working stiff or jerky for a while, getting worse & worse?

Was there a real heavy load or jerk on the 3pt or was the 3pt slammed upward when this happened?

Help us out, tell us what the problem is, what you tried, where you been, so we can figure it out.

I'll guess your pump lost it's prime, but there could be 100 other things with so little to go on.

I purchased the 9N tractor about a year ago. I never checked-out the 3 point until just recently. But the guy I bought the tractor from says that everything worked when he sold it. Right now the arms are in the down position. When I move the lever to activate the 3 pt. thats when nothing happens. The lever moves very freely like it isnt hooked up. I have no idea on how to prime the unit.....so maybe that is the problem? What do you think?
