The clutch went out on my 850 and a friend has offered his help to split the tractor and repair the clutch. I did not get any manuals when i purchased the tractor. I see there are maintenance manuals, service manuals, operator manuals. I know I should have them all, but which do I really need to repair the clutch. thanks Rob

To repair the clutch you should have the shop/service manual. You can get them on e-bay for about $25. The parts manual is also nice to have because it shows all the parts and how they fit together.

Now if I may I would like to recommend that you get the CD of all three manuals. I paid about $30 for my CD and it has all three manuals on it.
You can print out the pages you need and then throw the dirty pages away when the job is done.
While I do not see any for your tractor on e-bay right now contact the seller in the link below because he has the one for your tractor.

I would suggest getting the service manual. I just bought one at my New Holland dealership for $53.00.

Rob, I suggest you purchase the reproduction red cover book that Ford supplied starting in 1955 and was updated up to 1960. Good coverage for your tractor. If you don't have any luck finding one, I have them. E-MAIL me at jewellco@scrtc.com. Also, I know some short cuts that you can use that will cut your time down time to a couple hours. You'll need a cherry picker or chain hoist and a floor jack. You have a 5 speed with single 10" clutch, piece of cake, hardest part is replacing the release bearing and getting the cross shaft spring off and on. One thing you need to keep in mind is what happened. If its oil soaked, replace the transmission input shaft seal, should do that anyway....thanks, Kelly.

I'd also suggest the service manual. There are several original Ford manuals listed on ebay right now under "Ford tractor parts". None of them are anywhere near $53.00 yet.
