Ford 5000 SOS problems

I"m working on a 1966 Ford 5000 SOS that the neighbor has, and am experiencing some problems. The tractor barely moved in 1st gear, and 1th reverse. I changed trans fluid , filters, and re-adjusted the bands. Now it moves great in the same 2 gears, but nothing else. It still moves forward in 2nd - 4th forward, however it really doesn;t shift, just stays at the same speed as it is in 1st forward. I only have a I&T shop manual, and the next step looks to be checking hydraulic pressures. The manual goes on to talk about the next step being setting hydraulic pressures. But on the 500 it says you have to take waht appears to be a valve body out of the trans and adjust it by trial & error. Is there any more exact way to do this? Anyone have some info from a factory Ford shop manual or have any clues on what to do next? Any halp or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Was your band adjustment proceedure according to the book? Sounds like you do need to pressure check it. If your bands are adjusted right, you got deeper problems than valve adjustment. Did he lose his transmission all at once or did it gradually give up? Valve adjustemnt is done as you described, but you really need the genuine ford version of the shop manual to work on these.
