Hello, everyone! I have a 860 that has taken over a year to repaint and repair. Just recently got her all finished started her up and after 10 min hear a tapping noise in the engine sound like coming from the pushrod inspection cover. Removed cover and valve cover. Whats the best way to checxk adjustment or for any problems in valves? At the front of the head there is what I think is an oil tube just dangling in there? Is that a problem? Any info greatly appreciated.

When the o-ring at the bottom of the main supply tube gets bad the tube jumps up and down, hits the valve cover. This o-ring is circular but if I remember correctly it is not round in cross section so you should use the exact, factory o-ring if you want it to last. Also, someone on this site says New Holland has a kit to hold the top (curved part) of the tube down so it can't bounce up and hit the cover.

You probably have a tappet that needs adjustment. Set them according to the book. The front oil tube is the return and should have a keeper on it to stop the wiggle and dangle. The main supply tube is in the center and also has keeper.

Yes Jman that is a problem. That line oils your
rocker arms and pushrods which also helps oil your lifters. Richard H.
