Hello...I have a 1985 Ford 1710 tractor, 3 cyl diesel, 4 wheel drive. It is stuck in differentail lock. Pushes badly when trying to turn...if you have something heavy on the 3 pt, it tries to keep going straight. I have sprayed the hek out of the diff lock pedal, tho it seems to operate correctly. Tried turning tight circles right & left, stomping on both or either brakes but cannot get this tractor out of differential lock. Any ideas??? Grady

Sound like you're doing the common things for trying to release one--assuming that nothing in the lock is broken. As you probably know the idea is that unequal axle traction can prevent the axle plate from disengaging. Applying one brake at a time and turns forward and reverse might equalize the traction and allow the return spring to release the lock if the lock isn't broken. I think that if the return spring is broken, gently pulling up on the lock might release it. The mechanism is a pin is the shaft that rides in v-grooves on the fork.

I guess there could be some experimenting with blocking one or both axles up and manually turning wheels and power versions of the same thing but it doesn't sound too hopeful. About the only thing that comes to mind is that a dragging brake might make equalizing traction tricky. Something like very unequal tire pressures is even more far-fetched.

Tom, Thanx for your reply...I'm wondering if something actually is broken. I don't have a manual for this tractor so I don't what what the actual procedure is for dis-engaging the differential lock. I'll keep playing with it...if it doesn't come out I suppose I'll have to take it to a dealer to have them look at it about beginning of winter. Thanx again..let me know if you have any other ideas.... Grady Johnson
