860 running board correct?

I have an 860 (serial # 52,924) and it has a flat running board on the left side that mounts on the front to an arm on the radius rod cap. The right side board is bent up at the front and rests on a separate bracket bolted under the raduis rod socket. This board looks like a factory made thing, not an alteration. Is this correct? I'm wondering if this should also be a flat running board. Should it mount to a radius rod cap extension like the left side? My right side cap is broken off at the lower bolt hole so I can't tell what it looked like originally. Any help will be appreciated.

The flat footrests were only issued in 1955. I know the parts book shows the angled footrests starting in '58, but I've never seen anything other than a '55 with flat ones. It seems that a lot of the folks with flat footrests changed them out for angled ones later. I've heard people complain about their foot slipping off the flat footrests.

My '55 (s/n 57804) has angled footrests, but I still have the radius rod caps with the L bracket for the old flat footrests. And yes, I have the L brackets on radius rod caps on both sides. It looks like someone changed out the right footrest but not the left. Perhaps the L bracket broke off the radius rod cap so the previous owner just fixed what was broken rather than go all the way with a complete changeover.

If you want to put a flat foot rest on the right side to match your left side and also to be original, you'll need to find a good radius rod cap. I could be talked out of mine in exchange for your radius rod cap without the bracket. Email me if you want.

Based on our serial numbers it looks like our tractors were built about a month apart.

Not really, I just assumed from the parts book that all 55's had flat footrests from the factory and that many got them changed to angled ones later in life. Anyway, that's the assumption I'm working from. To date I've never seen flat footrests on anything but a '55. I know you've got several '55 Fords, some with and some without flat footrests. I wonder if any of your '55 tractors with angled footrests also have an "L" bracket on the radius rod cap? That would be evidence that the angle footrests are not original. That's the way my '55 is. Angle footrests with a unused L bracket on the radius rod caps.

My parts book shows the flat boards were used on 800 tractors. They changed to bent up boards in 1958 when the 801's came out. If you want a copy of the parts page so you can see what you have let me know.
