I have a 1955 860 which I just took off the lift cover and replaced the gaskets and o rings, that I could get to, without special tools. Replaced fluid then cover. All was working OK before I touched it. (not great but it worked) Now no hydraulic's, it will lift slowly without a load, but will not with anything attached. If I speed up the engine it will lift but not as high as it use to and very slowly. AT lower speeds it will not lift. I did bleed the pump and rechecked the fluid level. What did I do wrong? PS I could not remove the Check Valve plug, Someone had already stripped the nut.

Need help grass & weeds are getting too long.

If you replaced the O-Ring on the unloader valve this could be the problem. If not it still sounds like the unloader valve is stuck. I run mine without an O-ring on the unloader and it works fine, but if the O-ring is installed on my unloader valve the valve will stick and the lift will not work right.

Did not replace that o-ring, I think it's the pressure relief valve. When cleaning the casing we took out the screw and springs in it to clean. Found out that that valve is set at factory and we are not suppose to adjust it. So much for suppost to. Have no problem taking out screw. Just ordered a new one $55.00 at local MF tractor store, NH wanted $115.00. I'll post results after putting it in. (won't get part till next week). It's hard to find this part NCA638C anymore.

Was the fluid that you drained, thicker than the 134 you put back in. I have a 55 860 w/ vane pump that is whipped, but it will lift better w/ heavier oil. When I got the tractor and drained the fluid(thick) and put 134 in, I no longer could pick anything of weight. Changed it back to heavier oil (buying time 'til a conversion) and it picks up plow or 6' hog. Maybe time for a pump rebuild (piston) or a Swap out (vane). To be sure, get a gauge that will read atleast 2500 psi and test the pressure to make sure it's not the pump. HTH Brad. PS... Make sure your o rings didn't move around when you set the cover back on.

I thought of that too. SO I drained the new fluid and put in the old, but the same results. I have a piston pump on this tractor. I think as long as I get fluid out of the hex nut on the pump it is primed and I see no bubbles. SO what else did I miss. I have no lift at all with any kind of load.

Just a follow up to my problem. Turned out to be the Pressure relief valve. Replaced that and have WONDERFUL lift. Much better than I ever had. Still has some hic-ups but will get to that later. But now am able to do work, just got a post hole digger and works great. NH wanted $115 for valve, picked up at MF tractor shop for $57.
