If this link works, would anyone know how this filter was added to the Ford 860?

Which filter number is used? Was an an adapter purchased first to mount there, and then the filter added? Thanks

The hyd filter adaptor was a dealer installed option in the 1960s.I've used a Motorcraft FL1A on my 860 and 960 for 40 years.I beleive a Fram PH 8 is the same.

So you are saying Wayne, that the hydraulic filter is also the FL1A? That's interesting.

Thought it would be different as I am assuming the hydraulic pressure is much higher than the engine pressure, or does it go through the hydraulic filter at a low pressure? Thanks.

An automotive oil filter is, I would think, a poor choice for a hydraulic filter. Hydraulic pumps are very sensitive to trash, even the smallest particles. An auto oil filter will not filter the smallest particles, down in the sub-micron range. The instructions that come with any of the more expensive hydrostatic mowers such as my Great Dane or a Scag, warn to not use auto oil filters. They are not trying to sell their expensive filters, they are trying to save your hydraulic system. If you insist on using an auto filter, at least use a good one, such as a Pure One. I'll throw brand new Frams away, they are not worth the metal they are made of.

Most modern day hyd systems have the filter on the intake side so the filtering system is designed for vacum. Fords 800 hyd system was designed without a filter. The addition of a filter on the return side that will withstand up to 80' psi has withstood the test of time, weather it be with Fram, Pulolator, Wix, or brand XXX, or no filter at all!!! Wayne

Wayne has got hit pretty hard and I would like to stand up for him a bit. Alot has changed in 40 years. I don't know about and 860 but some tractors of that vintage used 10W motor oil in their Hyd. systems. It would seem a motor oil filter would work for this oil. Secondly, Fram did not always make poor filters. I agree that the test of time suggests what Wayne has done works. Finally all filters have micron and beta factor limitations. There is no filter that will remove all the dirt and I doubt that any of us would know the micron or beta specs for a 40 year old tractor not designed with a filter. Wayne has taken care of his tractor for 40 years. Let's give credit where credit is due.
