Please pardon the rookie question but I have read in previous posts that you should make sure that your fuel line is run properly in order to eliminate vapor locking. Exactly what route should the fuel line take from the fuel cutoff at the tank to the carb? The line on my '56 860 currently runs forward 6" toward the radiator then down an inch and then about 4" back before it heads south. Is this horizontal loop necessary? Can the whole line be insulated with some type of tape or wrap to help protect from heat?

I have a 860 that I brought this winter this afternoon I looked and the gas line just like you discribed yours. I haven't had any trouble with mind yet.

Derek, It is supposed to run from the shutoff towards the left side of the tractor and pass between the manifold and valve cover then straight down to the carb. If needed I can supply a picture of mine.

Dave, my gas line does run between the manifold and the valve cover but it starts out by running towards the front of the tractor and then backtracking. I could not think of any advantage to the extra length of fuel line between the tank and carb. Would definitely like to see a picture of how it should travel, looked in the manual but no diagram showing fuel line. Thanks.

On my '55 860, it runs right through the manifold....vapor lock was a big problem. I wrapped tin foil (Reynold's Wrap) around it and tied both ends with plastic ties and it has been running fine for about 1.5 years now.....wrapped the tin foil around a small pipe first, and then just slid it off the pipe and up the line from the carb end.
