I purchased an 860 last year and the pto will not stop turning when the clutch is depressed. I have to start it with the mower turning. Do you think that the pto clutch is frozen?

1. Is your clutch pedal very high? There are 2 settings (move the pin in the clutch pedal) one makes it easier to shift, but keeps the pto clutch out of the picture.

2. Is your pto clutch wore out/ mis-aligned? Can you shift the pto in & out of gear with the tractor off? (Might take a little rocking or slow slow roll on a hill to align the splines....)

3. Your clutch could be frozen, wore out, or a bent spline area.

It could be a frozen clutch or the clutch could be set up as a single stage. Look at the clevis on the rod going from the clutch pedal to the lever going into the transmission. If the clevis has 2 holes in it for the two stage clutch to work properly use the hole that puts the clutch pedal up the highest. Can you disengage the PTO with the lever by sliding it out of gear or is the lever stuck ?

It was in the wrong clevis hole. It now works great. Thanks for the help. Jerry
