851 Clutch Problem

The other day I was preparing to do a little brush hogging. I drove the tractor to the area to be cut. I began cutting for a short time but when I pressed the clutch pedal to disengage, there was very little resitance on the pedal and the clutch would not disengage.I shut it down, put it in 2nd gear, started it back up, and parked it. Is there any way short of splitting the tractor to diagnose or fix the problem?

Small world.

There has been a lot of clutch discussion lately and I remember responding to someone's post about adjusting their clutch linkage (which solved the problem).

Well, I was noticing the last several times I used my 2000 that the transmission wanted to stay locked in gear and didn't want to shift propoerly. At first I blew it off as thick fluid. Yesterday, I realized that I too needed to adjust my linkage.

What a deal this place is. Solves your problems even before you know you have a problem.

Mark

Check your linkage before you do something drastic.

Can we assume you have bypassed the starter switch to fire it up while in gear? :)

Sounds like a folded over clutch or broken internal linkage, but maybe others will know something simple to try.
